Now Hiring Two Outreach Coordinators

We are taking applications for two summer Outreach Coordinator positions.

Job goes from July 2nd – August 27th.

Closing Date for applications is May 15th.

Terms: $15/hr, 35 hrs/wk

Job Description:

Two positions:
One based out of Trail office.
One based out of Nelson office.

West Kootenay EcoSociety works to preserve wild places, air and water for future generations; to take action to reduce the crisis of climate change; and to promote sustainable local food systems. If you are passionate, organized, strategic, and love people, we want you to join our team as our summer Outreach Coordinator.

Working with EcoSociety staff and volunteers, the Outreach Coordinator will work with community members throughout the West Kootenay Area to protect sensitive ecosystems and promote sustainable communities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing outreach materials
  • Recruiting, coordinating, training and supervising volunteers
  • Managing the EcoSociety table at key community events
  • Hosting volunteer and community engagement meetings and events
  • Responding to public inquiries about conservation and sustainability issues
  • Having in-person conversations with community members on EcoSociety’s initiatives
  • Writing communications for EcoSociety’s website and social media
  • Promoting EcoSociety and its programs
  • Documenting EcoSociety events and programs
  • Participating in fundraising drives
  • Working with community members across the West Kootenay region

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for working to fulfill EcoSociety’s mission
  • Experience doing community outreach
  • Team player and problem solver, but must be able to work independently
  • Volunteer team management
  • Experience working for non-profits preferred
  • Outstanding verbal and written communicator
  • Comfortable and excited to promote EcoSociety’s work and fundraise from individuals
  • Intermediate knowledge of: Microsoft Office, Google Drive, CMS, Drupal, email management
  • Organizing skills must include: working in teams, digital organizing
  • Experience using databases and websites
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Attention to detail
  • Connected to local community or strong desire to build connections in the community
  • Understanding of climate, conservation, food and social justice issues
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record

This is a partially federally funded Canada Summer Jobs position, to be eligible, applicants must fit the following criteria:

  • is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
